Researchers experienced in tracing families through UK sources, assessing evidence and producing clear, referenced findings. Experience with Polish migration or military history is particularly welcome.

On-site archive researchers
People who can visit archives in London and elsewhere in the UK, consult relevant files and record accurate source references. Let us know which institutions you can reach.

Local research collaborators
Researchers able to consult local record offices, libraries, cemetery records or specialist collections. Knowledge of a particular region or collection can be valuable.

Depending on the project, an assignment may involve checking a catalogue reference, consulting a file, tracing a family connection or explaining what a source does and does not establish.

Is this a permanent job?
This page invites expressions of interest in research collaboration. The working arrangement for any assignment is discussed individually. It is not an offer of a permanent position or a guarantee of regular work.
How are assignments and payment agreed?
Before work begins, we agree the research question, scope, deliverables, deadline and remuneration in writing. Travel, copying and other expenses must also be agreed in advance. Please include your usual rates when introducing yourself.
Do I need to be based in London?
No. London-based researchers are welcome, but we are also interested in collaborators elsewhere in the UK. Tell us your location, travel range and the archives or collections you can consult locally.
What experience is useful?
Relevant genealogy or archive experience, careful source citation and clear written English are important. Tell us about specialist subjects, languages and historical handwriting you work with. Polish language skills are welcome, but not necessary for every assignment.
What standards do you expect?
We value accurate references, a clear distinction between evidence and interpretation, and an honest account of searches that produce no result. Collaborators must respect archive access and copying rules, handle client information confidentially and flag limitations promptly.
